What do homeowners ask about Fire + Water?
Why do I need water restoration after a fire?
Fire crews use a lot of water. Even a contained kitchen fire can generate hundreds of gallons of suppression water that runs into walls, floors, basements, and lower levels. Smoke and soot then ride that moisture deeper into the structure. Skipping the water side leaves a mold problem on top of the fire damage.
Will my insurance cover everything?
Fire is one of the most-covered perils on homeowners insurance — almost everything fire-related is covered, including suppression water damage, smoke, soot, contents loss, and additional living expenses while you can't live in the home. Wildfire causes are covered the same way. We work with all major carriers on fire claims.
Can the smoke smell really be removed?
Yes — with proper protocol. Soot has to be physically removed first, then sealing primer applied to remaining surfaces, then hydroxyl or ozone treatment for ambient odor. Skipping any step leaves residual smell. We don't paint over smoke damage — that traps it for the future buyer to discover.
How long until I can move back in?
For a small contained fire — 4-8 weeks. For a major structural loss — 4-9 months including rebuild. Your additional living expenses (ALE) coverage on the policy pays for housing during this time, so use it.
